Electric transit hubs at stadiums for an equitable, low-carbon future

Vision

The natural advantages of existing major infrastructure at stadiums have the power to accelerate our transition to electric transportation - and start our zero-emission tomorrow, today.

Goals

Our electric future starts with charging. Removing the pollution caused by diesel and gasoline engines requires electric vehicles - sure. But this new mobility technology needs power - and lots of it.

Accessing electricity affordably and in sufficient supply is challenging, especially in major cities where parking is scarce and incredibly expensive.

That’s why this project will build a charging hub at a major local arena where power is less expensive and parking is plentiful. Removing that barrier allows us to launch new, fully electric, zero-pollution transportation services at every stage of the journey for communities that need these services most.

Over 60% of disadvantaged community members in Long Island live within a ten-mile radius of UBS Arena. Residents here experience higher rates of respiratory health problems like asthma, while simultaneously facing underemployment and lower incomes.

These residents also lack efficient linkages between existing transit options, often walking long distances or facing extremely long commutes. This increases costs and reduces access to jobs, restricting upward mobility.

The Arena Transit Project will unlock the value of UBS Arena as a true community asset in solving these problems by creating a charging hub and multiple new services to address each part of the transportation journey.
